Dean’s music has been described as a unique blend of Scottish roots and Americana, with his influences ranging across country, punk and indie, through desert noir, folk and rock.

His music has taken him all over the world, particularly throughout the USA, where he has made most of his 8 solo albums, including his latest, Sinner’s Shrine, recorded with iconic Latin rockers Calexico. Sinner’s Shrine has been pulling superlative-laden reviews from publications throughout Europe, described as an intoxicating, innovative, “marriage made in heaven” collaboration. 2022’s highlights included performances at Edinburgh Castle, as well as festivals in Scotland, Germany and the Netherlands.

His band The Sinners make a gloriously bittersweet, brass infused sound with electric guitar, trumpet and bass, and Dean’s searingly soulful voice upfront. They can conjure the magical panoramic sweep of the US deserts, or a sepia tinged cantina, infused with grit and dust from Scotland’s post industrial heartlands. Songs of love and lust, sinners and saints, the displaced, the wanderers and the border ghosts.
