Jemima & The Fuse are an experimental, alternative folk act creating an enveloping tapestry of dark songs and bright rhythms.
Folk singer-songwriter Jemima Thewes collaborates with Tim Lane—producer and founding drummer of Hidden Orchestra—to craft vocals layered with grit and tenderness, carried on strings and playful percussion.
Though rooted in the ballad tradition, their inspiration spans many genres. Tim’s intricate rhythms on chromatic tongue drum, kit, and crafted samples provide a bed for Jemima’s powerful yet delicate voice and instrumentation, taking listeners on a wild and hearty ride. Melodies and harmonies creep up unexpectedly while beats move body and soul. This bold, experimental music takes Scottish folk to its own distinctive edge, creating a heart-opening effect that lingers long after listening.
The duo are sometimes joined by Susan Appelbe on cello and Jem Le Lievre on bass, adding rich sonorous depth.
