Sarah Markey
Bio
Sarah Markey is a traditional flute player, singer and harpist from Coatbridge, Scotland. She was a BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year finalist in 2019 and an Up and Coming Artist of the Year nominee in the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2022.
Her debut album Leaving Lurgangreen (May 2022) creatively blends Irish and Scottish traditional styles with Asturian music, drawing on her experience of living in Spain. Dedicated to her grandmother from Lurgangreen, Co. Louth, Ireland, the album reflects on themes of heritage, immigration and friendship, featuring her own compositions alongside traditional repertoire from Scotland, Ireland and Spain.
Sarah has recorded and collaborated with top traditional music artists including Mec Lir, Hayley Keenan (former Talisk member) and Calum Stewart. The album features a stellar lineup including Marty Barry, Charlie Stewart, Jack McRobbie, Conor Markey, Eamonn Nugent, Rubén Bada and Tomas Callister.
